Caferağa Madrasah

Caferağa Madrasah was built in 1559 by Sinan with the orders of Caferaga, a eunuch during the reign of Sultan Süleyman The Magnificent (1520-1566). The medresseh, listed within the group of independent medressehs and having had a number of restorations up until today, was changed by Turkish Cultural Service Foundation, into a touristic centre with 15 classrooms / exhibition rooms, a big salon and a peaceful garden where Traditional Turkish Handicrafts are taught, made and sold (1989).

The historical centre of Istanbul, which has been recognised as the centre of the centre of the eart for ages, is definetely Sultanahmet. Most of the important ancient buildings are here. Sinan’s Caferaga Medresseh has taken ist place among these important buildings. Medresseh is a world of its own being both in the centre of the historical texture of the city and outside the cty atmosphere.

We implement long term workshop by forming an artistic environment of our historical Medrese atmosphere. Besides, we hold courses on art (workshops) to private groups as well as foreign visitors on daily basis.

In addition to being used as workshops, the medresseh rooms are designed as constant exhibition rooms. It is a distinguished excitement to exhibit the works of our students at the and of every term in the big salon, which is a classroom.

Our garden, palace and oriental rooms are designed in accordance whith the historical building in order to provide food and beverages to our guests while they are having rest.

Today Caferaga Medresseh has taken its place within the cultural mosaic of Istanbul as a living historical place.
